The Norse Club hockey team will play many teams that are associated with the American Club Hockey Association and National Association of Intercollegiate Hockey from all over the midwest. The team will play 25-30 games over the course of the 2012-13 season.
To be eligible for the team, players must be enrolled for 9 credit hours of undergraduate level classes (6 hours of graduate level) at Northern Kentucky University and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
Tryouts for the team take place in the first week of school at the Northern Kentucky Ice Center. The Norse Hockey Club is competitive, and cuts are expected to be made at the end of tryouts to complete a roster of 20-25 players. Tryout times, dates, and cost are usually posted mid-summer as the fall semester nears.
Players' dues are collected at the beginning of the season. The dues help pay for hotel rooms, ice, referees, game socks and jerseys, transportation, team membership dues (ACHA/NAIH) and many other related costs. In addition to dues, the club participates in fundraising opportunities throughout the season. For the 2010-2011 season, player dues were $800 for the entire year.
There will be two on-ice practices held a week held at NKIC. Practices last for 1 and a half hours and start at 10PM.
